He went on to complete a Master’s degree (MSc.) and a PhD in Surgical and Clinical Sciences, with an emphasis on Neurology, at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Brazil.
During his postgraduate studies, he authored and co-authored several scientific publications on spinal surgical complications, post-operative pain, intraoperative bleeding, and prognosis in deep pain-negative dogs following decompressive surgery.

He then returned to the VSCAN to begin his Neurology and Neurosurgery residency as part of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) program.
Outside of his professional commitments, Denis enjoys short walks that often lead to a good coffee shop. He has two lovely domestic shorthair cats, Charlie and Sally, who still live in Brazil - they don’t like the cold weather!
